I was invited by a Malaysia popular TV channel- NTV 7 to give a nutritional talk and do a healthy cooking demo on their top rated lifestyle talk show- Bella, LIVE from studio. It's really a wonderful accomplishment for me as a nutritionist, to be able to educate the 30 milllions Malaysians on how to eat & cook healthily. Malaysia is ranked top 6th in Asia with high adult obesity rate by World Health Organization on 2011. This "high ranking" really makes me worried so much about my fellow beloved Malaysians...I'm really happy to have a chance to help them with the knowledge I gained throughout my 6 years experience specializing in food nutrition & weight management.
4 out of 10 Malaysians above 18 years old are now being either overweight (BMI over 23) or obese (BMI over 27.5). The factors contributing to the increase obesity rate in Malaysia are: habits of skipping breakfast, poor eating habits with high consumption of fat & meat (most of our traditional local foods are deep fried/stewed with palm oil/ coconut milk which is very high in saturated fat), super delicious multi-racial food, sedentary lifestyle, and the food restaurant/stalls (especially Mamak stalls, selling those irresistible roti canai, mutton curry, mee/nasi goreng, nasi lemak, etc) which open 24 hours daily ( that's the beauty of Malaysia, our culture of eating food 24 hrs per day without looking at the type of food we eat) !!!! According to The 3rd National Health & Morbidity Survey conducted in 2006 from the sample of 33055 Malaysians adults aged 18 years and above, the below categories has higher obesity prevalence:
1. In term of sex- Women
2. In term of ethnic groups - Indians & Malays
3. In term of occupation - Housewives
Overweight or obesity and their associated chronic health problems (e.g cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, gout, endocrine problems, etc) have imposed a very huge burden on human life & the countries's economic resources. Sadly, this is happening all over the world ! I really wish I can do something to help people around the world. Please help me spread my blog. You will be part of this good deed too. Thank you so much :)
To my surprise, many of my patients & friends really watched the show live from TV or online and gave me really encouraging feed back, saying that my SWEET Health Code is really easy to remember, my Angel's Balance Diet Ratio of 50% fruits vege, 25% carbs, 25% protein are easy to follow, and my cooking demo of the two healthy European recipes are really fun & easy to cook ! I'm grateful to be able to help. I will learn harder to contribute more to the public. Really thankful to every single support & love I received from all of you, my dear clients, friends & family.
Here, I wish to take opportunity to dedicate my deepest gratitude to some of my special friends, who is meaningful to me, who help me make this particular Live TV nutritional talk & cooking show a successful smooth one :
- April Pang (Producer of NTV 7- Bella), thanks for inviting me to the show & did a really great show
- Alvin, thanks for guiding me in the phone from Sunway Pyramid all the way to the front door of NTV 7 studio ( I will try to get a GPS next time, haha. But I really hate using fancy electrical things, ok, I know I'm weird & outdated. :))
-Chef Marthe, my dear French friends. Thanks for telling me more about French gastronomy & culture.
- Evka, my dear Lithuanian friend. Thanks for sending me the original recipe of traditional Lithuanian Šaltibarščiai cold beet soup. Without you, I'll never know about this wonderful yet nutritious dish from half a globe away ~
Love ya, forever...
You all are really meaningful to me...
Special thanks to one of my patient for recording my TV live nutritional cooking show from her super big LCD TV by holding her camera during the whole show while she was watching it live ! Finally, I have a clearer video version. She gave me the video recording as a surprise gift when she came visit me for her body slimming treatment session. She even invited me to her house and made me Dadih (Malaysian yogurt pudding) & Malaysian Curry Puff. I'm seriously touched & speechless..Just hug her tight. Love her~
Wow! I discovered that Malaysia karipap (curry puff), look exactly the same like Lithuania kibinai !! (hot fried pasty stuffed with lots of meat and onions, Malaysia version uses exactly the same things! But with extra ingredients, which are: lots of potato & flavored with yellowish curry spice powder.) Hey!! Which country should hold the "original pattern right"? haha! Whatever... It's really miracle to know that there is exactly the same traditional country's food out there half a globe away at North Europe! Just let this wonderful coincidence remain forever~ ♥
Šaltibarščiai (Lithuanian cold beet soup) & Salade Niçoise (salad from Nice, southern French Riviera) I cooked in the show. The host had taken back home the Šaltibarščiai. She love it so much! :) |
